The first task was to build a client team drawn from all parts of the school community, including the LEA and its private sector partner, teachers, governors, parents and pupils. The process of dismantling preconceptions and structuring a dialogue had to go hand in hand with preparing the basis for a design. The architects and a core of active parents organised Open Days and Bring and Buy sales to encourage others to share in the design process and the logistics of the move. The developing designs were exhibited on huge display boards and by providing tracing paper and pencils pupils, parents and teachers had the chance to work on the designs themselves.
